CTI Newsletter: Co-Active Global News - Winter 2012

Letter from the Co-founder

Hello everyone!

I wish you a Happy Holiday season whatever part of the world you are in. 2012 has been quite a year for CTI and for us all I believe.

Here in the US, we have finally elected an incumbent president after a long and somewhat frenetic presidential campaign. We’re feeling the effects of global warming with a wide range of wild weather, including hurricanes that don’t act the way they are supposed to act, tempestuous storms and crazy weather in all parts of the country.

The US economy continues to do the tango. The Euro bounces about. Any illusion we have that things will “return to normal” has vanished with the receding floods on the Eastern seaboard.

Winter 2012

At least I hope these illusions have vanished. From my perspective we are in the midst of a hugely exciting time of unprecedented transformation on a global scale. As the structures that have held our world in place for so long continue to fall away, there is more room for innocence, fresh perspective and the collective creativity of the “we”.

We belong to one another and we share the destiny of this planet we call home. This has never been more apparent and all around me I see evidence of people waking up to the reality that we are truly all in this together. To quote the powerful Nez Perce leader, Chief Joseph: “I believe much trouble would be saved if we opened our hearts more.”

In this past year, I have witnessed hearts opening all around me and all around the world. The current challenges that we face are just a calling forth for this sense of connection, of wholeness of “we”.

Much has been made of the “end of the world” in December 2012. May this December be the end of the world as we have known it. . .the end of separation and fear. May 2013 usher in a new age of creativity, of responsibility, of belonging.

From my perspective, the future has never looked brighter.

Much love to you and yours in this holiday season.
Karen

Co-Active Network News

Moving Into 2013 With A Fresh Start
The Co-Active Network will turn 10 years old in Fall 2013, and while the conversations and events across more than 70 different niches remain as engaging as ever, CTI has decided that it’s time for an upgrade to make the experience more in keeping with the social media world of Web 2.0. In my role as CTI’s new Community Director, it’s my job to undertake a consultation about what a new Co-Active Network might look like and its role in continuing to support our diverse community of coaches and graduates with their continuing professional and personal development.

To these ends I will be hosting a call in February to invite your input and to answer your questions. If you can’t make the call, please feel free to email me your suggestions at networksupport@thecoaches.com. Once the consultation is complete we will make an announcement about our plans, with an invitation about how you can join our launch team to ensure the new platform provides a warm welcome to our community, new and old.

In the meantime, it is my commitment to build on the great work undertaken by Marcia Norris over the last 5 years, by continuing to provide a wide range of engaging community events, dedicated to deepening your learning about the Co-Active model, while also supporting your professional development as coaches and people working with the Co-Active model in the wider world.

Wishing you a wonderful festive season, and prosperous new year.

Warmly,
Nick Kettles

Living La Vida Leadership

The Co-Active Leader Program calls its participants to live in the moment, to be present in their bodies, self aware, and grounded in the place. Oh, and what places they are. If you’ve never experienced our Leadership retreat centers, let me introduce you to them.

Located in Sonoma County California’s Valley of the Moon, Westerbeke Ranch was built in the 1930s as a family retreat and was transformed in the late 1960s into the conference center it is today. Lush garden paths, amid native oaks, lead to congenial shared accommodations and spacious meetings rooms. Outdoor seating areas and natural gathering places encourage community. Gourmet meals are specially prepared and served in the beautiful California mission styled dining room, outdoor patio, or at poolside. Acres of unspoiled beauty make up the Ranch which is still a home—three generations now—as well as a business, embodying a spirit of growth, tradition, and intimate hospitality that is truly unique.

The Bend of Ivy Lodge is cradled in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Western North Carolina. The lodge—formerly a tobacco ranch—is an eco-conscious, carbon neutral retreat center nestled on 63 acres of land that slope gently down to the Ivy River. A grassy glade of walnut and sycamore trees along the river, views of the high Blue Ridge Mountains, and forest trails lined with trillium, jack-in-the-pulpit, and rhododendron restore the spirit. Beaver, fox, and great blue herons call this home. Surrounded by an exuberant natural environment with forest trails, a pond, waterfall, and gardens; this lodge provides a serene and peaceful escape.

Situated 30 minutes south of Barcelona, Spain, Almiral de la Font is a luxuriously restored masia (Catalan manor house) perched high on a hillside in the Pinedes wine region surrounded by the Garaf National Park. With dramatic sea or mountain views from every room and terrace, this tranquil haven occupies more than 300 acres of private grounds with vineyards and olive groves. Explore miles of private trails to find pear, cherry, walnut and almond trees in addition to many naturally growing herbs and vegetables. This extraordinary house may be within 10 minutes of the lively beach resort of Sitges, but it is a world apart.

Come for the Program, Stay for the Food
When you are considering attending a retreat, it’s easy to worry that you will be at the mercy of the chef. Fear not.

Program participants from all three retreat venues will attest, your meals will be the freshest and tastiest dishes you can imagine. “Honestly, I can’t tell you the last time I ate so well,” a participant gleefully confessed upon returning from her first retreat. Prepared from healthy locally-sourced ingredients, meals become the highlight of everyone’s day—along with the learning. And the chefs at all three locations cater to any special dietary needs you have. Enjoy!

One cannot think well, love well, sleep well, if one has not dined well. ~Virginia Woolf

Scientific Support for Coaching's Efficacy

CTI has joined forces with The Institute of Coaching at McLean Hospital, an affiliate of Harvard Medical School, to bring the art and practice of coaching together with the science that supports its efficacy.

This relationship between CTI and the Institute of Coaching is unique in the history of the coaching profession. We’ve known intuitively and by watching results for twenty years that the Co-Active Model is an effective approach to coaching, and now, with this partnership, we’ll be able to demonstrate that through scientific research.

Better still, CTI’s students and graduates will also benefit by being able to join at a discount the Institute’s global coaching community, the Institute of Coaching Professional Association (ICPA). Membership in ICPA supports personal and professional growth for all coaches through continuous learning opportunities. ICPA has generously arranged for anyone affiliated with CTI to explore the content on the website through the end of December.

Go to http://www.instituteofcoaching.org/, and click the red login button at upper right. Use the word 'gift' —all lower case—as both the user name and password. Then explore as you please. (We recommend starting with the Coaching section, which you can find in the middle of the red navigation bar.) Once you have seen all the wonderful material ICPA offers and you are ready to become a member, please email cti@instituteofcoaching.org to obtain instructions for becoming a member at the affiliate level for $100 USD annually, discounted from the regular $150 USD.

College Equivalence for Co-Active Training

CTI is the first and only coach training school to receive college credit recommendations from the nationally recognized American Council on Education (ACE). ACE helps adults obtain college credit for courses, such as the ones offered at CTI, taken outside college and university degree programs. In addition, many employers reference ACE recommendations for courses in determining when to offer tuition reimbursement of educational expenses for employees.

Prospective students should call CTI at 800-691-6008 option 3 or 415-451-6000 option 3, or email info@thecoaches.com for more information on earning college credit from Co-Active courses.

The Co-Active Coach Training program received a credit recommendation of one semester hour for each coaching course including Fundamentals, Fulfillment, Balance, Process and Synergy in the upper-division baccalaureate degree category in social sciences, organizational behavior or human resource management.

The Co-Active Coach Certification course received three semester hours in the upper-division baccalaureate degree category in social sciences, organizational behavior or human resource management.

The Co-Active Leader Program has been awarded a recommendation of six semester hours in the upper-division baccalaureate degree category in leadership development or organization development.

Business Success Can Be Learned

CTI is offering a dynamic new sales training program, called Co-Active Sales, which shows you how you can use your Co-Active coaching skills to successfully sell your services to prospective clients and grow your business to the size you want. This is a virtual program that will help you prospect for new clients in a fun and profitable way.

According to program participant Renata Razza, “the Co-Active Selling Program isn’t just a sales training: it’s an immersion program in how to shift into the perspective that will allow you, as a coach, to reclaim selling for the sake of creating the kind of transformation you want to see in the world. With the CAS, I get support and accountability for making that shift. And that’s a very good thing.”

Accountability Makes the Difference
The Co-Active Sales Program is not just another set of content-filled webinars. Nine small-group Accountability calls are spread over 90 days to support you in successfully implementing your sales strategy. For three months you will have the support you need to insure that these sales techniques and systems become habits you will use every week to build your practice. By the end of this program you will feel confidant and comfortable both in attracting new clients, and in receiving regular referrals.

“The Co-Active Selling Program gives you the concrete, tangible tools you need to build your practice and get clients,” says Lisa Bourque. “The tools are seriously what you need. The group accountability aspect of the program will help you stay on track with weekly check-ins and support.”

Carolyn Lazaro notes, “I am realizing the accountability group meetings are like an anchor for me. I know I have a safe zone to go to, a home base to meet with the like minded who are struggling and succeeding as I am. It’s a sure place for inspiration, connection with people aligned around the same purpose and a space for support.”

Set Your Goal and We’ll Help You Reach It
Linda Wright signed up for the Co-Active Sales course with a daring vision of doubling her business. “What I have learned will definitely more than double my business and the system I have created with their help will last years and years. But, more than that,” continues Wright, “as with most CTI courses, I have learned so much about myself, my work style, my obstacles and how to overcome them that the course is invaluable to me. AND, I now have another group to hold me accountable to building my business my way!”

CTI believes so strongly in the Co-Active Sales program that we are offering a money-back guarantee. If you fully participate in this program, attend the calls and do the homework and you do not reach your new client goal at the end of the program, you may receive a full refund.

“It’s an awesome program with great tools and even better leaders,” explains Amanda Manzagol, “but it’s a serious time and effort commitment, so don’t take it lightly. You will get tons of support and need to find a way to make it work for your own style and that will take some tinkering. Long story short, if you really want to get real about your practice, take the course!”

Contact a Program Advisor today at 415-451-6000 option 3 or 800-691-6008 option 3 with any questions or if you are ready to register. The next Co-Active Sales program begins February 6, 2013.
